FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is this an alternative to Obamacare / healthcare.gov in New York?

Yes. These private PPO plans are sold outside the Marketplace (NY State of Health), so you don't need to wait for open enrollment. You also don't get Marketplace subsidies, so it's worth comparing both. We do that comparison for free.

Why does my health history matter?

Pricing on these plans is based on a short health questionnaire. Applicants in good health can qualify for preferred rates. Some applicants won't qualify, and if that happens we'll help you find the best Marketplace or other option instead.

Can self-employed people and 1099 contractors get this plan?

Yes. Sole proprietors, freelancers, gig workers and independent contractors are exactly who these plans are built for. They give you group-style buying power without needing employees.

Can I enroll outside of open enrollment?

Yes. You can apply any month. Apply by the 21st and coverage can start on the 1st of the following month, with no qualifying life event needed.

Which doctors and hospitals can I use?

Plans use national PPO networks such as Cigna and PHCS, so you don't need referrals and you have access across the country. Send us your doctors and we'll check them before you apply.

Are prescriptions covered?

Yes, plans include tiered prescription copays. Some plans don't cover specialty drugs, so tell us about any ongoing medications and we'll match you with the right plan.

Is there a membership or association requirement?

Yes. Access to these plans and their group pricing comes through membership in Elevate Wellness, a national association. Membership is set up as part of enrollment, and we'll explain it before you apply.

Can I add dental and vision?

Yes. Dental (MetLife or Delta Dental) and vision (VSP) have no health questions. You can add them to your medical plan or buy them on their own.

Does it cost anything to get a quote?

No. Quotes and plan comparisons from Sellis Brokerage are free with no obligation.
