Commercial insurance questions
What insurance does a small business need in New York?
Most New York businesses with employees must carry workers compensation, plus disability benefits (DBL) and Paid Family Leave. Beyond that, general liability and property coverage, often combined in a businessowner’s policy, protect against the most common claims. Your leases, contracts and lenders may require more.
What is a businessowner’s policy (BOP)?
A BOP packages general liability, commercial property and business income coverage into one policy, usually for less than buying them separately. It’s a good fit for many offices, shops and service businesses.
Do I need commercial auto if my employees drive their own cars?
Their personal auto policies may not fully protect your business if they cause an accident while working. Hired and non-owned auto (HNOA) coverage fills that gap, usually for a modest cost.
How is insurance for an apartment building different from a home?
Apartment and mixed-use buildings need a commercial package policy that covers the building, lost rents and your liability to tenants and visitors. Lenders typically set minimum limits, larger buildings often add an umbrella, and condo and co-op boards need D&O coverage.
What do you need to quote my business?
A description of your operations, estimated revenue and payroll, number of employees, locations and vehicles. If you’re insured today, send your current policies and loss runs too.
